That day has finally arrived! We are absolutely thrilled to announce that theunwrapping of Derby Arena will begin on 20 March with 30 days worth of an introductory programme.

You will be able to come in for a tour, use our Cafe 42, cycle track will be open to members, club users and customers who have already purchased cycling gift vouchers. Our state-of-the-art gym will be available to our members.

Our gym will suit all needs and abilities, so express your interest on Derby Arena page and we will get in touch with you to arrange an induction session for you.

Derby Arena: New £27.5m venue set to open in March

DERBY’S new £27.5 million Arena is due to open in March but no final date has yet been given.

The news comes in the midst of a political row over news that the venue will run at a loss for at least its first three years in operation, meaning public money will be spent to help keep it open.

Councillor Alison Martin said subsidising its running costs were part of the plan with the idea being to ensure that using its gym, cycle track and other facilities would be affordable for the public.

But Liberal Democrat councillor Joe Naitta said that when he was cabinet member responsible for leisure, in 2008, the plan had been to be running at a profit after two years.

Cycling: Dame Sarah Storey says new Derby Arena track is ‘superb’

CYCLING star Dame Sarah Storey has labelled the Derby Arena track “superb” after a training session for her forthcoming world record attempt.

Storey, jointly the most decorated Paralympian in history, with 11 gold medals, and a three-times British champion on the track, taking on able-bodied rivals, will attempt cycling’s fabled hour record at the end of the month.

For the hour record, a competitor attempts to clock up as many kilometres as possible in 60 minutes.

There have been several attempts on the men’s record recently but the women’s record – which was set at 46.065km in 2003 by Dutch rider Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel – is less often attempted.
